Dear Scholarship Selection Committee,
I have loved traveling and reading about other cultures since I was a little girl.
Sitting on the floor of our family kitchen and reading about people who lived all over
the world as well as living for a year in Argentina, instilled in me a respect for
diversity and a strong desire to be an advocate for those underserved on this
planet. This goal has been my reason for past formal and informal studies, and a
degree in ABC will provide me with the final tools I need to overcome the challenges I may encounter, and to become the powerful advocate I would like to be. Education and Professional Goals
My plan is to obtain my undergraduate degree in ABC, and pursue a career as
an advocate for clean and healthy environments while living in South America or Africa. I am currently carrying out a research on women, water, health and law to
add to the existing information about the role of women in conserving and
protecting freshwater resources. In the past ten years, I completed an internship in
Ethiopia and in Uganda, learned about the United Nations, and sharpened my
organizational, advocacy and cultural skills. When my children were young, I needed to take a break from college, but now I am re‐energized to get back to school to complete the degree, and obtain the knowledge and skills I need to make my dream comes true.
Responsibilities/Characteristics
Following my internship, I got married, had a child and lived for one year in Uganda.
Currently, I am a single mother of three obedient children (ages 8, 6, and 5). I love my
children, and am happy to be a role model for them of a woman who is patient with her
education and follows her dreams.
Relevant Experience
During my break from college, I forced myself to be more involved in my community by
mentoring and volunteering at organizations such as […]. In addition, I worked at M for three years, where my passion for this field got more fierce.
Financial Need
As a single parent with insufficient child support, the XXX scholarship would be of practical assistance in supporting my goal to finish my degree.
I work at M, 25 hours a week, and have decided to not work full‐time to avoid day
